The Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It:
We use website building services that may collect your data including: Jetpack Comments, Jetpack Contact Form, Akismet Spam Protection (owned by Automattic), and other WordPress plugins that may retain your data.
And we use the Mailchimp email list management system to store subscribers names and email addresses. We never sell our email list to others. We only use our email list to send news and updates to subscribers.
The following information explains how your data may be stored, as a result of using our website.
Cookies
This site uses cookies. Cookies are small text files that are placed onto visitors computers to help our website provide a better experience for users. In general, cookies are used to retain user preferences, store information for things like shopping carts, and provide anonymized tracking data to third party applications like Google Analytics. As a rule, cookies will make your browsing experience better. However, you may prefer to disable cookies on this site and on others. The most effective way to do this is to disable cookies in your browser. We suggest consulting the Help section of your browser or taking a look at the About Cookies website which offers guidance for all modern browsers.
Writing Comments
Jetpack Comments: When visitors leave comments on our site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
Data Used: Commenter’s name, email address, and site URL (if provided via the comment form), timestamp, and IP address. Additionally, a jetpack.wordpress.com IFrame receives the following data: WordPress.com blog ID attached to the site, ID of the post on which the comment is being submitted, commenter’s local user ID (if available), commenter’s local username (if available), commenter’s site URL (if available), MD5 hash of the commenter’s email address (if available), and the comment content.
Akismet Spam Protection: The following information is sent to the service for the sole purpose of spam checking: commenter’s name, email address, site URL, IP address, and user agent.
Gravatars: An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Activity Tracked: The comment author’s name, email address, and site URL (if provided during the comment submission) are stored in cookies. Learn more about these cookies.
Data Synced (?): All data and metadata (see above) associated with comments. This includes the status of the comment and, if Akismet is enabled on the site, whether or not it was classified as spam by Akismet.
Cookies: If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. Click here to read more about Jetpack Cookies.
Cookies on Mobile Theme
Activity Tracked: A cookie (akm_mobile
) is stored for 3.5 days to remember whether or not a visitor of the site wishes to view its mobile version.
Using Our Contact Form
Data Used: The contact form submission data — IP address, user agent, name, email address, website, and message — is submitted to the Akismet service for the sole purpose of spam checking. The actual submission data is stored in the database of the site on which it was submitted and is emailed directly to the owner of the form (i.e. the site author who published the page on which the contact form resides). This email will include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message.
Data Synced (?): Post and post meta data associated with a user’s contact form submission. The IP address and user agent originally submitted with the comment are synced, as well, as they are stored in post meta.
We keep contact form submissions for a certain period for customer service purposes only. We do not use the information submitted through the contact form for marketing purposes.
Watching Videos & Embedded Content From Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
What We Do With Your Data:
Who we share your data with
We do not sell or share your data with any business or 3rd party to use for their marketing.
Where we send your data
Mailchimp: We use Mailchimp, a 3rd party email service provider. MailChimp participates in and has certified its compliance to the Privacy Shield framework. It has self-certified to both the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield regimes, and lawfully transfers EU/EEA personal data to the U.S. pursuant to their Privacy Shield Certification. Mailchimp is committed to treating all personal data received from EU member countries in accordance with the Privacy Shield framework’s applicable principles. Click here for more information about Mailchimp’s Privacy Policy.
Comments: Data associated with comments from website visitors are checked through Akismet, an automated spam detection service.
How long we retain your data
Data from Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Your Mailchimp Data: After you opt in to our email list, we retain your contact information in our email list indefinitely. You have the right to be forgotten, though, and you can unsubscribe from our email list at any time. Our newsletters always contain an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Or you can contact MailChimp directly to request deletion of your data from our MailChimp accounts.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data:
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
